My Review of DeliVege and What They May be Missing

First of all, I applaud this vegetarian restaurant, DeliVege, for sending the message that children too, can grow up healthy and smart without meat. In fact, a fallacy, that we need a lot of protein.

It’s great that DeliVege chooses to cook without MSG, white salt and white sugar.  There are many good alternatives, eg. Himalaayan salt and Stevia (sugar alternative).  And when food is nutritious, who needs MSG anyway?

While vegetarians would love the food in DeliVeg, vegans may wanna avoid because they do cook food with honey, and they do serve dairy drinks (milk, coffee).

One thing they should re-consider are foods with Garlic and Onion.


Do you know….Garlic, oregano and coconut are naturally anti-parasitic and anti-microbial!

Garlic is anti-parasitic and has allicin, an anti-microbial compound that’s naturally deactivated if garlic is cooked (crushing garlic, place aside for 10 minutes before cooking helps maximise allicin).

  1. Garlic has essential minerals like copper, zinc, magnesium and selenium.   Its sulphur compound, sulphide, lowers high blood pressure and cholesterol, and staves off blood clot.  In these ways, garlic lowers heart diseases by as much as 76%, as well as the risk of dementia (memory loss).
  2. As garlic compounds helps flush out cancer-causing agents in the body before they damage DNA cells, garlic not only appears to ward off stomach and colorectal cancers, cancer cells are also “encouraged” to self-destruct.  [More Info: Healing Cancer from Inside Out (DVD)]
  3. Studies have shown that garlic compounds kills the Helicobacter Pylori, the bacteria that causes stomach ulcers and damages stomach lining, thus making people less susceptible to cancer.
  4. Garlic can help ward off some sinus infections and common cold, and is associated with lower incidences of hay fever.

Studies for Garlic

US researchers from the University of North Carolina found that people who ate an average of 5 cloves of garlic a week (cooked or raw) cut their risks of colon cancer by 33%, and stomach cancer by 50%.  This was compared to those who didn’t eat much garlic.

In the Iowa’s Women’s Study (USA)  found that women who consumed 2 cloves of garlic a week had a 32% lower risk of colon cancer compared to those who rarely ate garlic.

US National Cancer Institute found that men in Shanghai who ate at least 10 grams of chopped garlic a day (about 1.5 tablespoon of crushed garlic), lower their risks of prostate cancer by as much as 49%.  Men who ate more than 5 cloves of garlic, reduced their cancer as much as 53%.

The good news is, raw garlic’s “over-powering” flavour mellows quite a bit after cooking. It repells ticks, and even other people if you eat a lot of the raw crushed garlic!
Onion causes  cell membranes to be less reactive to allergens (usually toxic chemicals) in air and food.  Eating onions regularly help asthmatic sufferers experience lesser asthma attacks (of course, other factors can be reasons like chemicals in perfume and detergents; for babies, detergent residues in babies’ fabric and even consumption of commercial milk formula can increase allergies in babies.  More info on what could trigger allergies).  Only a very small percentage of people are ever allergic to onions, so there’s no reason to avoid onions unless you are allergic to it.

Onion improves body’s absorption of Vitamin C; even the onion skin, rich in antioxidant known as “quercetin” (just make sure you remove from your onion soup them before consumption).  Like the garlic, onion can ward off some sinus infections and common cold.  [It has the same effects as breathing in (gently and slowly) steamed water. ]  A good “old fashioned” spicy curry will also do the trick.  If you find it too spicy for your liking, all you need to do is take a little butter for your tongue!    (Other foods rich in quercetin are red grapes, berries, green leafy vegetables and tea.)

“Since one natural food product can be of so many benefits to human health, is it any wonder that big pharma seem more than willing to call these foods Quackery?  Beware of your “official Quackbuster” – he/she may be your biggest quack yet!”   More Info:  We are all Health Skeptics!

What other Improvements can DeliVege make?

While eating mock meat made with textured soy is inevitable in most vegetarian restaurants, perhaps the restaurant can also consider making their own mock meat with buckwheat or quiona seed (grind them into flour first).   This is because soy has their problems unknown to the many who eat them….

Unfermented Soy products including soy milk and unfermented beancurd have toxic phytic acid that prevents the intestines from absorping nutrients.  Nutrients essential to boost your immunity against colds and degenerative diseases.

Also, scientists have known for years that the isoflavones in soy products can depress thyroid function and cause goiters (aka goitre) in otherwise healthy children and adults. “Children who develop Type1 Diabetes are twice as likely to have been fed soy formulas as those fed all other foods.” – combined research team of Cornell University Medical College and Long Island Community Hospital medical experts.

‘No hormones in soy gonna make my boy a GAY!’ – unknown

Even FERMENTED soya beans can be harmful.  Soy isoflavones (in soy products) are phyto-endocrine disrupters. They can prevent ovulation and stimulate the growth of cancer cells. Eating as little as 30 grams (about 4 tablespoons) of soy per day can result in hypothyroidism with symptoms of lethargy, constipation, weight gain and fatigue.

How Soya Beans are processed is a clue to how healthy or toxic they really are. Alkaline solution is used to remove fibre of soya beans, then precipitated and separated using an acid wash.  Then, soya beans are neutralized in an alkaline solution – “lysinoalanine” (a cancer-causing nitrate) is formed at this stage.  On top of this, acid washing in aluminum tanks leaches high levels of toxic aluminum into the final product.  That’s how you get your toxic fibre-less soy ppwder, which is tehn used to make your mock meat and beancurd.

Numerous artificial flavourings, like MSG, are added to textured vegetable protein and soy protein isolate products, which gives these toxic soy products its “meaty taste”.  All vegans should be aware of this!   You can read more about soy here! (If you eat or use soy products, they should be kept to the minimum, because of all the reasons stated above.)

There is a study by a Vanderbilt University stating that their studies on men and women in Shanghai who ate soy products showed good signs of health etc.  I find the study flawed because these people may already be eating other anti-cancer foods like green tea and mushrooms.  It is also VERY unlikely for soy factories to overhaul/replace their machinery -  which would surely dent to their profits -  just to produce toxic-less soy food.

I hope DeliVege is also not warming or cooking foods through microwave ovens, not using gmo foods, and I definitely hope they’re not using non-stick pans.

Try this GarlicVegan Recipe: 5 cloves garlic, 1 teaspoon oil (either extra virgin olive oil or organic coconut oil), 1 teaspoon dried bail leaves , 1 teaspoon thyme powder, ground mustard and black pepper.  Add to about 1.4 kg of young coconut flesh, mix well and ready to serve!

Try this Onion Vegan Recipe: Sliced onion, zucchini (or cucumber), eggplant (brinjal) + red wine vinegar + dash of black pepper  = Yummy  (Fast, easy and no-cooking!)  Can be added to cooked pasta or noodles!

Although Dr. Mercola and the Weston Price Foundation said that vegetarianism is a ‘flawed food’ lifestyle, I am still on the research as to whether humans can REALLY survive on nutrients from non-meat alone.  Grass-fed beef and raw milk (where unpasteurized milk is allowed) may not be 100% safe to consume, due to various environmental reasons.  And there is a desperate need to move away from the foods that can make us feel sick.
