Pico and Paco had a job carrying water from land to villages at top of mountains.
Day in, day out they carried water. What a boring job, they thought! But then again, the village atop the mountains needed water!
Pico got sick of the job but continued to carry water without complaints. He did not know of any other way that allowed him to make money on a daily basis.
Paco also got sick (of the job) but dreamt of doing things the faster and easier way. He set out to look for piping materials so they can be constructed to carry water to anywhere water could reach. The materials were expensive and he also needed to take time to learn how to make use of them.
In order to do his “piping project”, he carried lesser water and earned much lesser.
Although he was earning much lesser than Pico, he kept his focus on his goals and did not falter.
Soon, the pipes were finished and water reached the mountain top village, with just a switch of a water tap. Paco was able to sit back and relax. And still money came in as long as the water was carried via the pipes, day in day out.
Pico, on the other hand, could not stop work. If he did, he has no salary.
Luckily for Pico, Paco went to him and urged him to join him,”There are piping projects needed in other villages. Come on, I can’t do this alone! I want you to duplicate my success! We may be able to achieve more in future.”
Pico was very excited! Paco and Pico worked hard on their piping projects, and soon they were both able to retire in comfort, way before
“retirement” age.
Morale of the story? If you can gain 5 lessons from this parable, you got the WHOLE picture. Otherwise you need to re-read this till you get the 5 lessons!
