1.  Caustic refining, bleaching, degumming (using high temperatures or chemicals of questionable safety), deodorizing (because omega 3 oils in Canola oil will become smelly after high temperature). The standard deodorization process of Canola Oil removes a large portion of the omega-3 fatty acids, by turning them into trans fatty acids.

2.  And since a large portion of refined processed Canola Oil hardens into trans-fatty semi-solids, that large prtion becomes your “Canola Margarine”!

3.  Since Canola Oil is so cheap, they are being replaced more of actual peanut butter content!. “Higher levels of trans fat mean longer shelf life for processed foods, a crisper texture in cookies and crackersand more dangers of chronic disease for the consumer” (M.G. Enig, Trans Fatty Acids in the Food Supply: A Comprehensive Report Covering 60 Years of Research, 2nd Edition, Enig Associates, Inc., Silver Spring, MD, 1995).

3.  All food grade Canola, including the varieties sold in health food stores, are deodorized from its natural terrible stink with 300 degree F. High temperature refining. “You cannot cook a vegetable oil at that temperature and leave behind anything much edible.” – David Lawrence Dewey

4.  Even after the processing to reduce the erucic acid content, Canola oil remains a penetrating oil, turning rancid very quickly (invites free radicals). Canola Oil leaves a stubborn residual rancid odor on clothing. “My sister spilled Canola oil on a piece of fabric.  After 5 pre-treatings and harsh washings, the oil spot still showed.  She stopped using Canola oil, wondering what it did to our insides if it could not be removed from cloth easily.

Although the Rape seed/plant rape is a member of the Brassica or mustard family, it is NOT the source of mustard gas used in chemical warfare.

5.  Traces of hexane, normally remains in the oil, AFTER Canola oil is refined. Hexane is poisonous.

Adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD) is a rare fatal degenerative disease caused by a build up of long-chain fatty acids (c22 to c28) which destroys the myelin (protective sheath) of the nerves. It won’t matter if Canola Oil is from mustard or rapeseed anymore, does it?

7. “Canola Oil has no C22.”  (found via http://www.canola.okstate.edu/canolaoilmeal/canolaoilmythsdebunked.pdf )
Let me refer to a statement on the website of the Canola Council via  http://www.canolacouncil.org/canola_oil_the_truth.aspx  and http://www.canola-council.org/canola_oil_the_truth.aspx “When rapeseed oil is fully hydrogenated, its erucic acid becomes behenic acid - a natural saturated fatty acid found in peanuts and peanut butter.”   Behenic Acid is combustible “docosanoic acid” (DHA) and is a LONG-CHAIN FATTY ACID .  Canola Oil manufacturers deny about C22 long chain fatty acids in their Canola Oil!

And research on DHA – an omega-6 fatty acid – suggests it is very cancer-promoting .  Ref:  Sauer LA, Blask DE, Dauchy RT.  Dietary factors and growth and metabolism in experimental tumors.  J Nutr Biochem.  2007 Apr 4.   (Which of our babies’ milk powder has DHA?)

8.  Chinese and Indians have used UNREFINED Canola oil for centuries with no adverse effects.  Modern Canola oil is REFINED! – Udo Erasmus.

9. Canola Oil is banned from babies/infant milk formula. Why?  Because it’s related to growth retardation!

10.  Canola oil was genetically modified from rapeseed oil (mustard plant family), and rapeseed oil’s smoke causes lung cancer.  “Canola oil is a health hazard to use as a cooking oil or salad oil. It is not the healthy oil we thought it was…. Polyunsaturated or not, this is a bad oil.”" – Amal Kumar Maj. TheWall Street Journal, June 7, 1995, pB6(W) pB6 (E) col 1(11 col in).

11.  More evidence that fumes from cooking Canola Oil is cancer-causing! Linolenic acid (known as “ALA” in Canola Oil) heated to high temperatures produces cancer-causing mutagens.   “Separately, the mutagenicity of individual volatile emission condensates was correlated with linolenic acid content (r = .83; P = .0004). Condensates from heated linolenic acid, but not linoleic or erucic acid, were highly mutagenic.”  – National Cancer Institute, 1995.

12.  A couple of studies indicate that men who consume high quantities of ALA appear to have an increased risk of prostate cancer. – Harvard Medical School  via http://www.intelihealth.com/IH/ihtIH/WSIHW000/24479/36146/492599.html   

13.  You will find a lot of literature saying that Canola Oil is not a rapeseed (not totally true)! Canola Oil’s proponents claimed that it is no longer rape oil, but “canola” (Canadian oil) because of genetic engineering and irradiation (a sure sign canola Oil was not “traditionally harvested”, as initially claimed.  Canola is a genetically modified food, borne via a lab.  It is not a natural food made by nature; it is man-made!)  They also claim it is completely safe, pointing to it’s unsaturated structure and digestibility.  Ref: point 1

Tilion or Liger? Genetically modified animal made from genes of lion and tiger  – is it a lion, or a tiger?  Lion or tiger, both answers are correct.When someone says “Canola Oil is not rapeseed”, it’s a little like saying sugarcane is not a leaf or grass.  Although this sounds logical, it’s illogical to say sugarcane is not a leaf; sugarcane is another genetically modified food – modified from two species of GRASS!

So is the Canola Oil actually a Rapeseed Oil?  We do know that Canola Oil was rapeseed oil, only it’s genes were played around with – your genetically modified oil!

14.  “There is no evidence that canola oil depresses the immune system.”
Canola oil may not have glycosides but inside the human body, the oil causes high production of cyanogenic glycosides, which CAN inhibit or block enzyme function. (These glycosides are not the same as those found in the structural compounds of your citrus fruits, apricot kennels, yam, potatoes, lima beans, sweet potatoes, bamboo shoots  – which is why such foods MUST be cooked before consumption – and also found in, walls of human blood cells.  Such glycosides are essential to suppressing a chemical that suppresses thyroid system’s functions – most natural foods are low in cyanogenic glycoside. )

Like rattle snake venom – which is high in cyanogenic glycosides – canola oil is capable of causing serious health problems and not so serious problems such as greying hair. The cummulative effects of glycosides in the body is a demyelenation of the nerves.    This kind of damage can takes YEARS to show up, when you also drink alchohol regularly while consuming foods cooked with canola oil.  Even so, would you want to consume this kind of oil?

Canola Oil’s effects on Animals

15.  Rats developed fatty degeneration of heart, kidney, adrenals, and thyroid gland. When Canola oil was withdrawn from their diets, the deposits dissolved but scar tissue remained on all vital organs.

16.  In Japan, lab animals given a special canola diet died.

17.  In a Canadian study, piglets that were given a canola-based milk replacer diet began to have dangerously low levels of Vit. E. Vitamin E (tocopherols) control lipid peroxidation. Without vitamin E, dangerous free radical activity can result in lesions on arteries and other cardiovascular-related problems.  – . Iunis, S.M. and R.A. Dyer, “Dietary canola oil alters hematological indices and blood lipids in neonatal piglets fed formula”, Journal of Nutrition, July 1999;129(7):1261-8.

18.  Yes, Canola has gone through “stringent” animal trials “to ensure it was a safe edible oil”.  But what they don’t say:
*  According to John Thomas’ book, “Young Again”, rape seed was fed to cows in England and Europe.  Pigs and sheeps later went blind and began attacking people. After the rape seed was eliminated from the diet, there were no further attacks.  – David Dancu, N.D.
*  And that no studies on humans were made before money was spent to promote Canola oil in the USA.   Money placed before human safety!
Boars fed with Rapeseeds did not experience better health:  “Degeneration and necrosis of seminiferous epithelium resulting in atrophy of seminiferous tubules appeared in RSM boars after 2 years.”

19.  Rape oil, it seems, causes emphysema, respiratory distress, anemia, constipation, irritability, and blindness in animals and humans.  Rape oil was widely used in animal feeds in  England and Europe between 1986 and 1991, when it was thrown out.   Toxicants found even when Canola Oil has low erucic acid rapeseed

20.  The Canadian govt paid FDA $50 million dollars to have Canola oil placed on the (GRAS) List “Generally Recognized As Safe”. Although the Canadian government lists Canola Oil’s transfat (trans fatty acid) at a minimal of 0.2%, research at the University of Florida (Gainesville), found transfat levels as high as 4.6% commercially-available Canola Oil.

26.   I doubt very much any longterm studies have been done on Canola Oil.  No one needs to do any studies on something that is on the GRAS List “Generally Recognized As Safe” status.  – unknown

27.  ‘By nature, these rapeseed oils – aka “LEAR” oil (Low Erucic Acid or “Rape Oil”), which have long been used to produce oils for industrial purposes, are… toxic to humans and other animals.’ – AgriAlternatives, (Online Innovation and Technology Magazine for Farmers).  Erucic oil induced severe cardiac necrosis in rats and heart lesions, in a study conducted in 1978 at the Unilever research facility in the Netherlands.  Ref:  Vles, R.O. and others, “Nutritional Evaluation of Low-Erucic-Acid Rapeseed Oils”, Toxicological Aspects of Food Safety, Archives of Toxicology, Supplement 1, 1978:23-32.  (Interestingly, in 1982, it was found that rats subjected to same experiments had better growth and a significant lowering of heart lesions, after being fed saturated fats in the form of cocoa butter.  Wikipedia:  Saturated fats cannot be transfat.)

28.  While the Canola Council continues to say that Canola Oil is good for your heart, the use of rapeseed oil has been associated with a high incidence of fibrotic lesions of the heart, aka Keshan’s disease.

I am suprised that a science-based company with dozens of awards (not to mention, they have more than 150 scientists worldwide in their payroll) and the only DIRECT MARKETING company to be listed in the New York Stocks exchange and NASdaq, has no inkling to what Canola Oil is capable of doing.

Although Nuskin affiliates verbally state that the source of their supplements (herbs, Reishi Mushrooms) are organic, there’s NO INIDICATION of  organic-certification by the USDA nor other organic certification boards

NUSKIN – please do your part!  Because your success is also others’ success!

Contradictory Statements about Canola Oil (If you have any idea how these statements make sense, please comment!)

33. “The canola plant has been modified, not the oil.”
This statement is a mystery to me.  I have no idea why some people would think that a modified plant’s nutrients remain the same after genetic modification.  Besides, you just need to look at how Canola oil is refined to understand what happens to it, and whether it is healthy for human and animal consumption.

34. “Most people in China cook with unrefined rapeseed oil, which is not processed to remove contaminants and contains no antioxidants.”
It is also very mysterious how antioxidants came about in REFINED Canola Oil when they say that natural unrefined Canola Oil has NO ANTIOXIDANTS!   Surely, the antioxidants must come from somewhere!?  All natural uncontaiminated foods have some levels of antioxidants!

35. “This combination of frying with unrefined rapeseed oil at very high temperatures (to the point where the oil produces a thick, black smoke) can produce harmful emissions.”
It would be the same for frying REFINED Canola Oil – cancer-causing!  Not to mention what’s already happening during the refining stage of Canola Oil

36. “Canola oil – just like any cooking oil – suffocates insects (such as aphids).”
While this may be true, insects do not die from vegetable oil, but they do when you pour Canola Oil over them.  It’s not a case of “drowning” or “suffocation”.  Here’s an indirect admission that Canola Oil DOES kill insects and perhaps, more readily and quickly than other vegetable oil.

37.  “Euracic levels in Canola Oil is so low, euracic will not cause any adverse health effects.”
Oecd.org says otherwise.

Before you say something is healthy, look at the source of a food  –>  before processing, during processing, after processing, storage and delivery of food.
