There is a movement that is gaining ground in America to shut down the world’s largest purveyor of genetically modified organisms (GMO)–especially seeds: Monsanto.  The movement is being lead by Shelly Roche of Bytestyle.tv, BreaktheMatrix.com, and the popular Fox News Online television show Freedom Watch with Judge Napolitano.

Monsanto makes the weed (and plant) killing product “RoundUp,” so the name for this movement becomes obvious.

The idea is to boycott all products made by Monsanto (as much as possible) and create economic pressure on the company to change its ways. This pressure also translates into political leveraging, something that BreaktheMatrix.com is very good at, to negate the heavy political influence that Monsanto has in Washington, D.C.

The Roundup Challenge requires participants to do two things upon signing up: take a pledge and then stick to it.

The pledge is simple: “I will not buy Roundup weed killer, and will instead use an alternative method of weed control.”

Roundup is Monsanto’s most popular consumer product, so targeting it could cause a huge commotion in Monsanto’s sales. That’s the goal.

Here are some safe, natural, and economic ways you can avoid using Roundup around your home, yard, and garden.

Pull the Weeds – good, old-fashioned weed pulling will obviously get rid of those weeds. Plus, by doing this, the weed can be thrown into a compost heap to ad to your garden’s fertilizer next year!

Vinegar – this is the cheapest and best replacement for chemical RoundUP.    When poured or soaked into plants’ roots, vinegar kills the plant and works just about as quickly as RoundUP does. It’s completely safe, non-toxic, and worry free too. Plus, at $3-$4 per gallon, it’s cheap too!

Burn Them – using a focused flame from a weed killing wand, weed burners can be purchased in most home hardware stores and run on butane or propane—both clean-burning natural gases.

Livestock – if you have large areas that need weed removal, why not turn them into instant compost (well, more or less) by tying out livestock such as goats, sheep, cows, horses, etc. and letting them munch up the weeds and turn them into 100%, Grade A organic manure? Cheap, easy, and natural! Even if you don’t keep livestock, there is likely someone in the area who’d be more than willing to put their animals out in your weed patch for the free feed.
